 sneaky peek one!

They know all about it, but I do not wish to show the whole thing until they have had some fun with it!

some of those makes that have not been seen..

so we have made a couple of gifts for Christmas this year. but not shared the makings here... because that seems not right, until gifts have been given.. so a quick canter through the makes- or some of them anyway!

My receptionist has taken to crochet this year, so this was a no-brainer!
the bright handled hooks were included in the gift, not the scissors though, they and the hand sewing needles were just 'set dressing' .

I had noticed she favoured a thick handled hook, and why be boring when bright is available?

Cheery flower buttons...

and a book for a little inspiration!

a kindle cover for the other girl, Did I really not take 'open' photos when I finished? I really did not take finished photos when this was open...And, of course, I could not take photos with the kindle in situ...she has one with a camera, so allowance had to be made for that... I just hope it fits...

the outside should make her smile though!

and a simple fastening.

A wee while back.. about a year  or so, we made these little boxes...

so, I though, how about one like that for my Saturday girl?

Of course, I had done them before, so, who needs the instructions now? No, of course I do not need any instructions! Not me....

Favourite colours, blue and yellow...

but the flattened shape?  perhaps I should have referred to those instructions after all!

I took a view on this one, and decided, I would leave it so, It is different from the intention, but still pretty, and will still hold random stuff... so, with some bits and bats, made a gift for a teenager.

a few other bits also got made... perhaps I shall find them later...

Fresh sewing day

I have had a lovely day off. My lovely friend was across from her home the other side of the country, and chose to come and have a sewing day here.
Unfortunately I have no photos of what we made, but we were busy bees. I started by showing her how to make miniature windmills, to put on cards, like these.

Then I reminded her of the trick to make these pincushions.

and showed her how to make easy quarter square triangle blocks. And we put together some hearts for ornamental display. Very easy with the fabric she had brought along. So we had a lot of fun, and lunch, and tea, and cake. and we played with some 12 weight Sulky thread, and I had a lovely day! Never mind how her day went! mine was great...

And now I want to join Lily's Fresh sewing day, I can no longer join her small blog meet, 'cos my friends are now over 50!
So here we go, it is the recap for July!

I have done at least this lot in July! I have yet to find out what August will bring!

Kindle cover, Mark 1

Well, we gave in and bought a kindle. We were buying one for the elder daughter- a sort of 'well done for getting your degree' sort of thing- and we are avid readers, so had thought it made sense to have a kindle, as half the weight of luggage on holiday is books, and so- my other half just did it!
And you look at it, all pristine and new, and do not want it to get damaged. So, a cover is in order.
And, having bought one for the daughter, she will also need a cover. So it was agreed, I will make a cover for her, and she will make a cover for me. But, our kindles are different. She has the posh one with a keyboard, we have the basic version.

And, if I am making one for her, I need to get some practise in first, don't I?
And she is also going to need a practise?
So she has crocheted a basic cover, and sewn a posher one for her kindle, you may see these here. And I have just made one for our kindle. Which is to be shared, by me and OH. So, not too girly, I hope...

I had a good look around the web, and nothing there quite did what I wanted, so there is nothing for it but to start from scratch. I did not want elastic holding it in place, and I did want a zip pocket for its lead. A zip fastener could scratch the kindle screen, so the zip needs to be covered, so a flap is wanted.
If I am not using elastic, I will need a slip in pocket, but I want to leave the kindle in the case while I use it.So a 'mask' has to be made leaving appropriate holes to use the keys, at side and bottom of kindle.

Some scribbled notes, and a kindle drawn on cardboard, and a bit of thinking, and then stash inspection, and some fabric choices, and we are off!

Pocket fabrics and zip, great tutorial from Sewmamasew, for internal zip pockets, which I have used several times- don't really need it now, but it is reassuring to have open,

A couple of hours later, I have a kindle cosy, hopefully not too feminine, with concealed zip pocket for the cable,
The neat binding is tuted by 52 quilts in 52 weeks. I loved it, and it wasn't difficult!

and a button closure- because I forgot to organise my magnetic fastener at the right time!

If anyone asks for a tutorial, I will put one together, but I suspect you are all as capable of inventing this as I am!
